Job Description

Workers with a passion for environmental care can act as advocates locally and internationally, helping raise awareness of and appreciation for Mongolia’s diverse landscapes, climate, and natural habitats. New team members will learn alongside local partners, gaining practical experience in environmental care and professional fields such as renewable energy management, conservation, and education.

The team is open to developing new roles and professional pathways in Mongolia, using environmental stewardship as a way to build long-term trust and meaningful relationships within local communities. This work is supported through partnership with an experienced international organization that provides practical guidance and operational support.

You will contribute to the vision and direction of the team by living and working within the local community in culturally appropriate and respectful ways. Through collaboration and shared learning, you will support community-led initiatives that promote sustainability, environmental responsibility, and positive outcomes for future generations.

The team is working toward the development of an innovative indoor playground in western Mongolia, designed with a strong focus on ecological design, renewable energy use, and accessibility. The playground will provide a safe, welcoming space for children of all abilities, including children with disabilities.

Following design and construction, the project aims to establish a community center that offers environmental education for people of all ages, encouraging sustainable practices and a deeper understanding of the natural environment. This initiative responds to the significant environmental challenges facing western Mongolia, including heavy reliance on polluting energy sources, and seeks to promote practical, community-driven solutions.

Join us as we pray and work for long-term, holistic transformation in the communities where we are serving.

Responsibilities

As a creation care worker you will work with local colleagues to plan and implement programs. You will be accountable to our local partner charity board and staff management. This is a new program in the project and there is a lot of potential to develop new and creative ideas. Most importantly, come willing to learn from others, able to adapt to a new culture and be flexible and have a servant heart.

Your role will include:
• Building relationships with the local community and developing an informed understanding of their needs and priorities.
• Able to maintain good spiritual health, even in the face of practical and spiritual challenges.
• Willing to work together on diverse team of people from different cultures with mutual accountability, but also self-reliance.
• Using your professional skills to design effective and empowering programs
• Evaluation, monitoring and reporting to the local charity leadership team

Qualifications

Those involved in Creation Care will most likely take up professional roles (e.g. renewable energy resource management, conservationists, educators) so qualifications and experience in these areas are important. However, it is possible for one to begin postgraduate study in these areas in the first years of your placement and then move into a professional role once your studies have been completed. It is essential to have some experience or exposure to working with poor and marginalized groups within your own or another culture.

You need to be proactive and self-starting, able to motivate and inspire others, and with great communication skills. You will need to learn the local language. We will empower you with one year dedicated to full-time language study before continuing language development on a part-time basis.

Living Situations

The growing team will live near our focus area and to each other. We have a variety of living arrangements depending on our individual circumstances, and new team members will be able to choose whether an apartment or small house. Moving directly into a photogenic Mongolian yurt is not advised on arrival unless you have experience in doing so. Living in a large town comes with benefits such as good quality facilities, but many challenges too. We look forward to telling you a bit more about what life here is like in due course!
